A recent C-SPAN survey of historians ranked Abraham Lincoln as our greatest president. His noteworthy achievements include leading the United States to victory during the Civil War, freeing the slaves, strengthening the federal government and preserving the Union.

Here locally, the city of Washington, DC was greatly impacted and influenced by Abraham Lincoln. Over 155 years since his tragic death we’re still strongly connected to him. Come join us on a guided walking tour to learn about the life and legacy of our 16th President and see many of the DC sites connected to him.

Our program will include a brief visit to the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery before proceeding on a tour through the streets of Washington, DC and cover a distance of approximately 1.5 miles over 2 hours. The tour is led by Robert Kelleman, the founder of Washington, DC History & Culture, and Harry Phillips, who frequently leads tours of Arlington National Cemetery.

Registration: As this is a limited space event (and to reduce “no-shows”) there is a $4.00 per person registration fee to participate in this tour, with proceeds supporting our Washington, DC History & Culture non-profit community programs. Full refund if the event is cancelled or if you change your RSVP to “no” at least 72 hours beforehand.

Weather: This event will take place light rain (sprinkles) or shine. If it’s on our calendar, then we’re proceeding as scheduled.

Meeting Point: Outside the F Street NW entrance to the Smithsonian American Museum / National Portrait Gallery. We’ll head inside the for a brief period of time before exiting to continue with the outdoor portion of our tour through the streets of Washington, DC.

Ending Point: Outside of Ford’s Theatre. Unfortunately, we won’t be going inside the theatre as that endeavor warrants a separate visit and our group visits there on a regular basis.

Additional Questions: Anything that can’t be answered by the above event description, Google, or common sense please let us know.

This program is sponsored by the non-profit community organization Washington, DC History & Culture: “bringing people together to experience the history and culture of Washington, DC.”
