Australian curator and art historian Henry Skerritt considers the work of the nine women included in the exhibition Marking the Infinite, arguing that their work can only be understood by taking into account their position within both Aboriginal culture and the transcultural space of the contemporary art world. The ability to cross cultural boundaries without forsaking its distinctive identity makes Aboriginal art some of the most challenging and important contemporary art being produced in the world today. The lecture will be followed by a conversation between Skerritt and Klaus Ottmann, Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs, The Phillips Collection.
$12; free for members. Includes admission to special exhibition.
