ABOUT THE SHOW
A new feeling. A growing doubt. A stressful situation. A leap of faith.
It’s Easter Break for students at St. Gemma University, and Shawn, Andrea, and Maya are headed home. Having all been raised in the church, the three must now navigate what it means to be religious (or not) in the modern-day, especially as Filipino-Americans whose culture and tradition is in many ways tied to the faith.
Tandaan XVIII: A Leap of Faith is not a religious story, but a universal tale about empathy, acceptance, and growing up. Join us for these coming-of-age stories, interwoven through the three narratives, written and performed by members of the Philippine Cultural Society at GW. PCS members will also perform traditional Filipino dances in various styles.
CW: This show tackles the important yet difficult themes of mental illness and questioned sexuality.
Since 2001, Culture Show (aka Tandaan – “in remembrance”) has been PCS’s culminating event of the spring semester. It is written, directed, and choreographed by the cultural coordinators, showcasing the five different Philippine dance suites – Maria Clara, Rural, Lumad, Igorot, and Muslim – while at the same time portraying a story relevant to the history of the Filipino community, or the issues that it has faced or continues to face today. The best part – anyone and everyone can be a part of Culture Show! Prior experience to acting or dancing is never required to participate.
If you have any questions, please contact us via our Facebook page.
We hope to see you there!
