Washington National Cathedral
3101 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20016
As Christians prepare to celebrate Holy Week and Jews celebrate Passover, Washington National Cathedral presents Handel’s choral epic, “Israel in Egypt,” a moving experience that retells the journey from bondage to deliverance to the promise of hope for God’s people.
Experience Holy Week anew with the re-telling of the Exodus from Egypt, the same Passover narrative that Jesus and his friends would have commemorated during Holy Week.
Handel's use of color and texture with choir and orchestra combine to paint vivid images of this epic story, and capture the composer at his peak of creative genius.
Listen as the Exodus comes alive, with leaping violins evoking the plague of hopping frogs, frenetic orchestration for buzzing insects, and a sense of wondrous awe as the Red Sea opens a path to freedom.
Featuring the Washington National Cathedral Choir and the Washington National Cathedral Baroque Orchestra.
