The Bier Baron Tavern
1523 22nd St NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20037
If your idea of a poetry reading involves a tweed-clad author, a podium and possibly a nap, then prepare to have your expectations exceeded by «The Poetry Brothel», dubbed «New York's sexiest literary event» by «Time Out New York». Inspired by the fin-de-siècle bordellos of Paris and New Orleans, this immersive experience invites you inside a lush, speakeasy-style environment to meet your host, or «Madame,» who'll introduce you to a rotating cast of poets-in-character, both male and female, emerging and established, and local and international, each with a unique story to tell. They'll engage you with public readings, or if you prefer, private ones (for an additional fee). As with any underground establishment worth its salt, «The Poetry Brothel» also offers a full bar and themed cabaret entertainment with an ever-changing lineup of live music, burlesque dancers, painters, fortune-tellers and more. A holiday party edition now slinks its way into Washington, D.C. at The Bier Baron Tavern.
On May 4th we return to the illustrious Bier Baron for a night of literary pleasure guaranteed to titillate and surprise, presided over by the house band, The Bitter Dose Combo. On the scene will be burlesque babes, Mademoiselle Estelle and Holly Bordeaux, as well as our beloved poetry whores, Christina Beasley, Velvet Envy, Fraulein Kuchen, Selina Katerina Elizabeth Valdeth, Harrison Stone, Celestia LaFolle, Alexandra Naughton, and Bambi. Other diversions include live sketches by Too Loose and palm readings by Artemisia.
As usual the festivities will be presided over by your hosts Mister Charley, The Madame, and the rapscallion, Tennessee Pink.
