Hill Center is proud to host a performance for the Washington Women in Jazz Festival once again this year in a collaboration with our Street Scenes concerts series.
WWJF is a singular festival devoted to female jazz musicians based in Washington, DC, as well as their colleagues throughout the country. With links to the New York jazz scene and prominent institutions that include the Smithsonian Institution, the Festival casts a bright light on the role of women in jazz and jazz education. Amy K. Bormet, Director.
Hill Center's new concert series, Street Scenes, focuses on new music composed by emerging DC jazz artists, curated by Burnett Thompson.
This concert will feature cellist, composer and vocalist Shana Tucker. Ms. Tucker has played a vital musical role in the Cirque du Soleil extravaganza over the last five years. Her performances cross boundaries from soul and jazz to classical and folk genres.
