*Please note the tour has been moved from Feb. 15 to Feb. 21.*
On Feb. 21, to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana, Cuba, Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Navy will host a rededication of the mast of the USS Maine after an extensive conservation of the memorial.
In conjunction with the ceremony, Arlington National Cemetery historians will lead a trolley-tour through the cemetery, focusing on several points of interest relating to the history of the Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection. The tour will visit the graves of veterans of the conflict as well as memorials to those who fought.
The tour will begin in the multipurpose room inside the cemetery’s Welcome Center. After a short presentation, guests will board a trolley for the rest of the outdoor tour.
At the conclusion of the tour, guests will be taken to the USS Maine rededication ceremony. After the ceremony, the trolley will take tour participants back to the Welcome Center.
Please note: Guests are advised that while the tour will travel across the cemetery in a trolley, there are several stops where guests will be walking through the cemetery grounds and stops may include hills, stairs and walking through headstones. Guests with mobility issues are welcome on the tour, and guests may choose to remain on the trolley during stops.
Guests are not required to RSVP, but in the event of there not being enough seats on the trolley, priority will be given to those who have RSVPed. RSVP at eventbrite.com/e/history-tour-spanish-american-war-and-philippine-insurrection-tickets-42754742586.
