Bossa Bistro + Lounge
2463 18th St NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20009
The Funktronics return to Bossa for their first gig of 2018!
Saxophonist Joe Anderson will once again join John Yuan (keys), Stephen Evans (guitar), Nima Ghovanlu (bass) and Kenny Powell (drums) as they continue their bi-monthly residency of Funk, Jazz, Blues, and everything in-between. The quintet will once again bring a fresh interpretation of classic grooves and recent jams, all done in a tasteful fashion yet guaranteed to please the brain as well as the booty (to paraphrase Michael League).
Much in the vein of Cory Henry, the quintent enjoys taking funk and jazz tunes from the past and giving their current spin on them. Or sometimes, a classic reinterpretation of a modern hit works as well.
Veterans of just about every area of music in the District, the band members have over 40 combined years of playing in clubs such as Blues Alley, Twins, Meze, Chief Ikes, IOTA, Bayou, and the Velvet Lounge (among other spots). Playing with or opening for such greats as Gil Scott Heron, Jean Carne, Gerald Heyman, Jimmy Ponder, and Spyro Gyra these 5 are no strangers to playing great music and are now banding together to bring their sound to the District.
Located on 2463 18th Street in NW DC, Bossa is an Adams Morgan institution bringing you the best in live music, Brazilian tapas, cutting edge art, spoken word events, and the finest cocktails on the strip.
The jams start at 7 pm. $5 cover.
