Ruse De Guerre, an interesting name if there ever was one. No one really knows what it means, or what it represents. What language is it you ask? How do you pronounce it? Why did Marc Saucer, Hapa Siuhengalu, Daniel Quirke, and Tonito Walls choose it as their band name? I, for one, cannot give you the answers you seek. The one thing I can tell you, is that the name «Ruse De Guerre», whatever its meaning, should be at the forefront of your musical conscious; and the music that Ruse De Guerre makes, and the implications that come with it, should never be forgotten. Every time you do a post swim hair flip, don't be surprised if an image of Marc Saucer flipping his own Pantene conditioned locks just to wail on a guitar with his teeth enters your psyche. Likewise, if you ever enter an International House of Pancakes at 3 in the morning, go to see the new Star Wars movie, or get attacked by a Pitbull coming home from the library; you will see the rest of the members of Ruse De Guerre faintly in your peripheral vision. If you know what I'm talking about, you've most likely been to a Ruse show, and you want to come back to this one; if you don't know what I'm talking about, you haven't been to a Ruse show, and you most likely should come to this one.

Jingly, Jangly, lovey, dovey, shimmery, glittery, true indie pop. This is Castle of Genre. When I listen to their music I'm automatically transported to a romantic movie set, one that feels strangely familiar, but one I've never been to before. The scene the movie is shooting is near the end of the script, the main character finally got the love of their life, and Castle of Genre's «No Trick» is playing. Everyone is in tuxedos and dresses, it's a wedding day, no, it's prom night. You are suddenly the main character, you're staring at the love of your teenage life straight in the eyes. They pull you into the crowd, the crowd parts and it's just you and them, hands clasped, lips a finger width apart, both of you lean in for a kiss but the movie ends, and you wake up in your own bed, but you're unnaturally happy; a smile ghosts its way across your face just as the light from the sun peeks through the curtains your mom gave you as a present for finally being an adult. Was this the scene that Joey Fall, Brandon Iqbal, Patrick Stolte, and Anthony Crawford had in mind when they started making music together? Maybe, but I know it's this part of the movie that always gives my cold little heart a romantic pulse. Castle of Genre does the same.

Oh great. Rage Against the Machine, Bad Brains, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers had an 8 hour orgy and created XK Scenario. Oh, sorry? Does that peak your interest? Well it should. These guys are wonderfully abrasive to my ears. Their sound is akin to being hit in the face by a big ass wave, getting knocked on your ass, and loving every second of it. It's been a while since I've heard anything as fresh and funky as these guys come out of any local scene. I first had the pleasure of seeing them live at a house venue in Silver Spring, Maryland a couple of years ago. Honestly, I don't remember a single thing from that show except their set. There was a lot of moshing, Night of the Living Dead being projected behind them as they played, and through my drunk goggles I thought to myself «This is the greatest live band I've ever seen». The way Kaleab Elias owned the microphone and the area around him, or the way Alex Menick switched from crunchy Tom Morello-esque riffs to smooth Frusciante ones, or how Aiden Thies fingers seemed to stretch as long as the neck of the bass when he angrily smashed them onto the fretboard, and especially how Ryan West's drumming just made me want to move. I've heard they added bongo's since that infamous night, so i'm expecting double the greatness from these fellas.

If I wrote a bio singing the praises of my own band I'd feel like an asshole. So, I got my good friend Tommy Wiseau to write us a little something.
«Oh yes, ahaha, Firnats is very good. I like them very much, ahaha. They never betray me, they always good, big fan. I like when Sean sing and play little guitar, I really like that ahaha. Seth very good too, yes, he very good at his guitar too, good guitar player. Griffin hair is good too, almost as good as me ahaha. He doesn't use hairspray, that is problem, he need to use hairspray to be like my hair. Kurtis is okay, he look like villain more than me you know, he play drum okay right. I like when they bring football to show, that is my favorite part of them. We toss football sometime but not all the time. They never betray me, ahaha.» — Tommy Wiseau
Thanks for the kind words Tommy. See you guys on December 29th.
