The Inner Beauty ShopTM is an interactive and transformative workshop for girls and young women, ages 12 – 18, that allows participants an opportunity to find the beauty within themselves and those around them. The objectives for the workshop are:
Media Literacy: We dismantle the beauty ideal created by the media that causes pressure to compare and self-reject for most girls and women. Then, participants engage in a process of exploring how media influences have impacted them personally and collectively.
Yoga Practice: Participants are able to embody the experience of feeling unique and beautiful just as they are through a guided yoga practice.
Changing the conversation: We create a new conversation away from “body shaming” talk to “I have purpose” talk.
Committing to compassion: Students are then asked to make a commitment to themselves and their peers to be courageous in calling up one another when they hear “body shaming” and to being kind to themselves, and therefore each other.
The outcome of the Inner Beauty ShopTM is that participants are able to recognize their own impact on the collective and internal conversation about beauty, love-ability, and worth. Participants will leave knowing that who they are is what matters and that their external appearance is not what makes them worthy of love.
$25. Minimum participation number required.
