Join BloomBars and Africa World Now Project with the presentation of Faat Kiné (2001, 120 min), by Ousmane Sembene.

Kiné is a single mother with two children, two ex-husbands and an assortment of friends. She is the manager of a sparkling new gas station in Dakar, but her success has been hard-earned in a male dominated society.

In FAAT KINÉ, Ousmane Sembene, the father of African cinema, pays tribute to the «everyday heroism of African women,» and provides a critical look at modern, post-colonial Senegal and the place of women in that society. (French and Wolof with English subtitles). Trailer; youtube.com/watch?v=x_eHf1eip4Y
Suggested Donation: $10.

Free popcorn and refreshments provided.

The screening will be followed by a discussion hosted by Mwiza Munthali, host of the radio show «Africa Now!» on WPFW 89.3FM.

*Suggested Donation: $10. Proceeds support both the Africa World Now Project and BloomBars. Free organic popcorn.
