Join teacher Jacquelyne Adams and kirtan artist Wynne Ji Paris for 108 sun salutations in honor of the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and an auspicious time to celebrate the sun and our planet. 108 is a symbolic number in many yoga traditions, and it's traditional to perform 108 sun salutations, or surya namaskara, to celebrate the change in seasons.
Linking movement to breath, we'll create a repetitive moving meditation with the opportunity to cultivate mindful intentions for the remainder of the year. All levels are welcome — if you ever feel that you've done enough salutes, we welcome you to take rest and enjoy the music or chant along! Class will be by donation for Earthjustice, a nonprofit environmental law organization fighting for wildlife conservation, healthy communities, clean energy, and climate justice.
Sign up is free online and a $15+ donation is encouraged at the door. And because we're stronger together, this 108 yoga flow is sponsored by Athleta. All attending class will be raffled to win a $100 shop card for the Georgetown Athleta Store.
This is an installation of Beats Pray Love, a monthly event series bringing together intentional movement, live music, social justice fundraising & education to promote change on and off the mat. Follow along on Instagram @beats.pray.love and on Facebook at Beats Pray Love.
